The members of swimm attend monthly events. The topics are selected by an analysis of a yearly survey of the membership. The dates are set in advance and detailed programmes are provided several weeks before the event.
The events address the latest tools and techniques in supply chain management in theory and practice.
Networking is a key component of swimm and is very much encouraged. swimm is run by the membership for the membership. All members are encouraged to participate in the steering committee. The swimm Co-ordinator will be available to help members with any additional queries.
swimm recognises that the key resource in any organisation is its people, and that a foundation of knowledge based on awareness, education and training will bring multiple rewards. For this reason we encourage member companies to bring along staff from a variety of disciplines. Although there is a maximum number of representatives from a member company at each event, don't hesitate to consult with the swimm Co-ordinator if greater numbers wish to attend.
Wherever practical a member company will be accommodated.
swimm's main purpose is to increase awareness to best practice. The channel for this is the monthly events. Great care is given to co-ordinate topics with other organisations which operate locally, such as The Institute of Operations Management, The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and The Institute of Logistics. It is swimm's objective to provide visibility and where possible access to other events.
swimm has representatives from the Cardiff Business School, Lean Enterprise Research Centre and the University of Glamorgan participating on the Steering committee. Part of the initial swimm development was a benchmarking exercise for the membership. This is an activity which can be repeated should the members feel it is worthwhile.
swimm will also form links with the centres of excellence in the local area formed to support the educational needs of local industry.
